Dallas Moving Costs: Hourly Billing, Published Rates, and How to Compare Quotes

Last updated: August 2026. Fetched: 2026-08-26.

This page is for people planning a Dallas move. It explains how local movers usually bill, which dollar figures named companies have published, and which Texas and City of Dallas rules apply before anyone loads a box. It does not list, rank, or recommend companies. Named rates below are examples you can check on the company’s own page. Confirm the performing carrier through TxDMV or FMCSA as the route requires, then give every company the same inventory, addresses, travel assumptions, and building rules.

For hiring steps — licensing, travel time, apartment access, and suburb coordination — use the Dallas hiring and move planning guide.

How Dallas local moves are billed

Most Dallas household moves that stay inside Texas are priced by the hour, not as a locked citywide tariff. TxDMV licenses carriers and sets paperwork and liability rules; it does not set the hourly rate (TxDMV consumer page).

The bill is usually some combination of:

  • Crew size × hours (two movers plus a truck versus three or four)
  • A minimum (commonly two or three hours on company pages cited below)
  • A travel or service fee, sometimes plus mileage from a warehouse
  • Optional packing, specialty items, and a valuation upgrade above the Texas default
  • Time added by drive between stops, congestion, elevator windows, stairs, and long carries

A short apartment hop can still hit the minimum plus travel. A Dallas-to-suburb job is still often billed as a local hourly move, but the drive between stops and any warehouse legs sit on the clock or in a travel fee.

Ask each company to put crew size, hourly rate, minimum hours, travel time or travel fee (including warehouse legs), tolls, stairs, elevator wait, packing, and valuation on a written proposal before loading. Texas requires that proposal to be binding or not-to-exceed for listed services (TxDMV; 43 TAC §218.56).

Named published rate menus (examples to check)

These are one company’s published figures on the date fetched. They are not a Dallas metro average, not a ranking, and not a quote for your addresses. Open the source URL and confirm the current number before you plan around it.

Moving Company Guys (Dallas–Fort Worth)

Source: how-much-do-movers-cost-in-dallas (page labeled “Updated 2026”; company states USDOT #3918729). A TxMCCS Truck Stop search for USDOT 3918729 on 2026-08-26 returned zero rows. Ask for a TxDMV certificate number and re-check Truck Stop before hiring. A USDOT number is not a Texas household-goods license.

Home-size totals on that same page (the company’s estimates, not a third-party survey):

Their FAQ states a 1-bedroom “typically runs $400–$650 — about 3–4 hours with 2 movers at $135/hr plus the flat $99 travel fee.” They state pads, dollies, straps, and basic disassembly are included, and they say no fuel surcharge and no surprise stair fees on this page. Confirm that language on a written proposal for your job.

The company homepage also prints starting totals (“Starting at $369 for 1-bedroom local moves. $599–$825 for 2-bedroom moves. $1,125–$2,100 for 3-bedroom homes.”) at movingcompanyguys.com. Treat homepage bands and the dedicated cost-page table as two published menus from the same company, and check which one matches the written proposal you receive.

Later Neighbor Moving

Source: How much do movers cost in Dallas (2026). Address on that page: 3425 Halifax St, Dallas, TX 75247. USDOT 4034369.

On 2026-08-26, TxMCCS Truck Stop listed White Oak Brands LLC DBA Later Neighbor Moving, TxDMV 009982077, USDOT 4034369 (3425 Halifax St, Dallas), with certificateStatus expired. The figures below are that company’s published website rates, not proof of a current license. Re-check Truck Stop before hiring. This page does not call Later Neighbor licensed.

Hourly language on the same page:

  • Crew of 2–3 movers: $100–$220 per hour
  • Per-mover: $65–$85 per mover per hour, so a 2-man crew $130–$170/hour, a 3-man crew $195–$255/hour
  • Travel/service fee: a flat fee (often $25–$75) plus mileage ($1.50–$2.50 per mile) on the round trip from the warehouse
  • Minimum hours: usually 2–3 hours

Local home-size ranges the company publishes:

Home sizeTypical price range (their page)
Studio / 1 Bedroom$400–$800
2 Bedroom Apartment$600–$1,200
2 Bedroom House$900–$1,600
3 Bedroom House$1,200–$2,800
4 Bedroom House$1,800–$3,500
5+ Bedroom / Large Home$2,500–$5,000+

They also state peak season (May–August) pricing is 15–25% higher, and weekdays are typically 10–20% less than weekends. Those percentages are the company’s published planning language, not a government index.

Cheetah Moving (DFW)

Source: moving-cost-dallas. Page states TxDMV No. 009593097C and USDOT #3492801.

  • Typical rates: 2 movers $120–$180/hr, 3 movers $160–$230/hr
  • Most Dallas moving companies have a 2 or 3-hour minimum (their market statement)
  • Home-size figures they publish for a “standard local move under normal conditions”: studio/1BR $250–$500; 2BR $450–$850; 3BR $750–$1,400; 4BR $1,200–$2,000; 5+ $1,800+
  • Packing add-on they publish: $150–$350 for a 2-bedroom apartment
  • Long-carry language: some companies charge beyond a standard carry, typically beyond 75 to 100 feet

The home-size totals on this page sit below several other Dallas carriers’ published 2BR/3BR totals. Treat them as Cheetah’s own ranges, not as a floor for the metro.

Included on that page: crew, truck, load/unload, pads, dollies, basic disassembly/reassembly, and Texas released-value protection at $0.60 per pound per item. Billed separately: packing, fuel/travel fee, specialty items, Full Value Protection. They state rates are generally quoted with a cash/check discount that does not apply to cards; the discount amount is not printed.

Big Tex Moving LLC

Source: residential (same figures on the commercial pricing page). About page: bigtexmoving.com/about.

  • $150/hr Monday–Sunday for two movers and a 26-foot truck
  • $50/hr additional mover
  • 2-hour minimum
  • $3.00/mile round trip
  • 3.5% surcharge for debit/credit payments
  • About page: “We charge by the minute and refuse to round up in 15 minute increments”

Fetched Big Tex pages did not print a USDOT, MC, TxDMV number, or street address. Einstein Moving Company (pricing explainer — not a Dallas-only locked rate)

Sources: straightforward-pricing and the Dallas movers location page.

The company pricing explainer prints a comparison table with Einstein “Base hourly rate $200/hr” and “Actual hourly rate $200/hr,” with trip fee $0 within a free service area, fuel $0, and card fee $0. It also states: “We service within a 10–15 mile radius of each branch location at no extra charge. If your move is outside this zone, a trip fee may apply.”

The Dallas location page does not print a Dallas-only locked hourly number. $200/hr is on the company pricing explainer as an example quote, not a Dallas tariff. The Dallas FAQ on that location page states: “Moves in Dallas take either 2.5 hours minimum or 7 hours on average,” and “The clock starts when we pick up your first piece of furniture or box. Not a minute before.” Confirm the rate that will appear on your written proposal.

Other published ranges (not a ranking)

These are additional published bands. They are not treated here as a metro survey.

  • Star Van Lines Dallas page (starvanlinesmovers.com/locations/texas/dallas, USDOT #4176875) says rates are “based on US moving industry market averages for the Dallas metro as of 2026”: local $99–$199/hr; local apartment/small home typically $500–$1,200; 3–4 bedroom $1,200–$2,500. Home-size table on that page: studio/1BR $228–$687; 2BR $458–$1,144; 3BR $687–$2,060 (assumes a 2–3 person crew). Long-distance “base” prices they list (Houston $851, Denver $1,362, Atlanta $1,382, Chicago $1,538) are labeled as starting points that scale with inventory. Those base figures sit far below Later Neighbor’s and Firefighting's Finest full-service Dallas-to-Houston numbers. Do not mix them.
  • Bellhop Dallas movers article (getbellhops.com/blog/dallas-movers-what-to-look-for): hourly $120–$350 per hour depending on crew size and services; studio $350–$800; 1BR $500–$1,200; 2BR $800–$2,000; 3BR $1,200–$2,800; 4BR $1,800–$4,000+; “Most local moves cost between $500 and $2,500.” This is a national brand page about Dallas, not a Dallas tariff.

Planning arithmetic (labeled; not a survey)

The products below use only Moving Company Guys’ published formula ($135 / $185 / $225 per hour + $99 travel + 2-hour minimum) from their Dallas cost page. Hour assumptions are planning inputs, not a promise that your job will take that long.

Stated hour assumptionFormulaPlanning total
2 movers, 2-hour minimum($135 × 2) + $99$369
2 movers, 4 hours($135 × 4) + $99$639
3 movers, 5 hours($185 × 5) + $99$1,024
3 movers, 7 hours($185 × 7) + $99$1,394
4 movers, 8 hours($225 × 8) + $99$1,899
4 movers, 9 hours($225 × 9) + $99$2,124

Using Later Neighbor’s published 2-man band $130–$170/hr from their 2026 Dallas page (TxMCCS certificateStatus expired on 2026-08-26; re-check Truck Stop; this is not a license claim) and a 5-hour assumption (hours not guaranteed): $130 × 5 = $650; $170 × 5 = $850. Then add that company’s stated travel/service fee ($25–$75 plus $1.50–$2.50/mile from warehouse). Mileage cannot be computed without a warehouse-to-address distance.

Using Cheetah’s published 2-mover band $120–$180/hr from their Dallas cost page and a 4-hour assumption: $120 × 4 = $480; $180 × 4 = $720.

These products are planning arithmetic. They are not a Dallas survey and they ignore stairs, elevator waits, packing, and rush-hour drive time unless those hours are already inside the assumption.

Texas rules that apply before anyone loads a box

A Dallas local move that never leaves Texas is TxDMV household-goods consumer rules, even if the truck also has a USDOT number. If either address is outside Texas, FMCSA rules apply instead (TxDMV consumer page; FMCSA Protect Your Move).

Intrastate (both addresses in Texas)

From TxDMV: Don’t Make a Move and the Rights and Responsibilities brochure:

  1. License. Texas movers must be licensed with TxDMV. An “Active” certificate status means the mover is licensed. It is illegal to operate without a license.
  2. Trucks must be marked with name, TxDMV certificate number, and USDOT number on both sides.
  3. Written proposal before loading describing the services and stating the maximum you could be required to pay. Two legal types: binding (the exact price) or not-to-exceed (a maximum; the mover may charge less, not more, for the listed services).
  4. Moving services contract before loading. Do not rely on verbal agreements. A licensed mover will not assess additional charges after the contract is signed unless both agree in writing.
  5. “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move in Texas” must be provided before loading.
  6. Default cargo liability is $0.60 per pound per article unless a higher limit is agreed in writing (and may cost more). TxDMV example: a 50-pound television → 50 × $0.60 = $30. Mover liability is not insurance.
  7. Claims. File a written claim with the mover within 90 days of delivery. If the mover does not receive the claim on time, it could be denied. The mover has 23 days to acknowledge and 90 days from receipt of the claim to pay, decline, or make a firm settlement offer. TxDMV mediation is no cost. Helpline (888) 368-4689.

Hourly Dallas jobs still need a maximum on the proposal. If hours are omitted, 43 TAC §218.56 still requires a written acknowledgment and a stated maximum. Cargo liability rule: 43 TAC §218.53. Claims rule: 43 TAC §218.61.

Firefighting's Finest states that Texas-standard released value at $0.60/lb is included, and Full Value Protection is extra (Dallas page). Later Neighbor lists “standard liability coverage ($0.60/lb per item)” as usually included (2026 cost page). Upgrading valuation is a price line. Declining it is how a damaged TV becomes a $30 conversation.

How to check a Texas license (Truck Stop)

Use TxDMV Truck Stop: https://txmccs.txdmv.gov/truckstop/search.

Search by name, TxDMV certificate number, or USDOT. City and household-goods filters that appeared on older lookup screens are gone. If you cannot find the company, ask for the TxDMV certificate number and look that number up. An “Active” status is the license check TxDMV describes (Don’t Make a Move).

Lookup snapshot (2026-08-26) from TxMCCS Truck Stop. Re-check before hiring. This page does not call expired carriers licensed. An expired certificateStatus is not a license.

Interstate (leaving Texas)

Confirm the performing carrier or broker through FMCSA Protect Your Move, the mover search, and HHG search. Tips page (last updated 2024-11-04): tips for success. Booklet: Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move (2022 update).

From those FMCSA pages: movers and brokers must be registered with FMCSA, have a U.S. DOT number, and have the proper insurance. Do not accept verbal estimates. Required documents include a written estimate signed by the mover, a bill of lading, and an inventory. Released value is 60 cents per pound per article if you waive Full Value Protection in writing; otherwise Full Value Protection applies. FMCSA example: a 10-pound stereo valued at $1,000 → mover liable for $6.00 (10 × $0.60). Do not assume Texas’s 90-day claim clock on an interstate job — read the federal booklet and bill of lading. FMCSA: (800) 832-5660. Interstate complaints: protectyourmove.gov.

Dallas–Fort Worth scale (why hours add up)

Dallas is not a compact “across town” job for many households:

  • City of Dallas: 1,326,093 residents; 339.7 square miles; city limits touch five counties (Dallas, Collin, Denton, Kaufman, Rockwall) (Census Reporter, ACS 2024).
  • Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metro: 8,344,032 people; 8,676 square miles (Census Reporter, ACS 2024).
  • Firefighting's Finest, a Dallas carrier, defines a local move as generally 50–100 miles, covering Plano, Frisco, Irving, Garland, Richardson, Carrollton, Denton, Rockwall, McKinney “and most of the metroplex” (Dallas page).
  • Later Neighbor states DFW covers over 9,000 square miles and that a “local” move from Frisco to Fort Worth is 50+ miles (2026 cost page).

Congestion that stretches billable time

TxDOT / Texas A&M Transportation Institute 2025 Top 100 Congested Road Segments (data year 2024; released November 2025):

  • Dallas’ Woodall Rodgers Freeway is the third most congested road segment in Texas. Spectrum Local News, 2025-11-25: delay 1,399,098 hours, annual cost $52,174,747 (Spectrum recap).
  • Same ranking in the official TxDOT/TTI press release, 2025-11-24: Houston I-610 West Loop #1, Houston Eastex #2, Dallas Woodall Rodgers #3 (press release PDF).
  • DFW contains 41 of the state’s 100 most congested segments (Spectrum).
  • Official methodology and full list: TxDOT Top 100.
  • Dallas Morning News recap, 2025-12-27, listing North Texas segments on that Top 100 (including US 75, I-635/LBJ, I-35E, I-30, and Dallas North Tollway from Bush Turnpike to I-635): dallasnews.com.

A midday Uptown ↔ Plano run on US 75 or Dallas North Tollway is not the same clock time as a 9 a.m. start. Ask each company how travel time appears in the written proposal, and check conditions near move day.

Tolls (NTTA / TEXpress)

NTTA facilities include Dallas North Tollway (DNT), President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT), Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT), 360 Tollway, Chisholm Trail Parkway, and others (TxDOT DFW toll-roads page).

Toll rates effective July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027 (official NTTA tables): NTTAS 2025–2027 Toll Rate Tables PDF. Calculator: ntta.org/toll-calculator.

Selected Dallas North Tollway rates from that PDF (trucks with more axles pay more; three-axle is 2× the two-axle TollTag at these gantries):

DNT gantry2-axle TollTag2-axle ZipCash3-axle TollTag3-axle ZipCash
Wycliff Main Lane (MLP1)$1.94$3.88$3.88$7.76

Parker Main Lane (MLP3)$1.23$2.46$2.46$4.92
Eldorado Main Lane (MLP4)$2.19$4.38$4.38$8.76

A moving truck is often three or more axles, so the 3-axle Wycliff TollTag rate of $3.88 is the relevant planning number if the crew uses DNT at that gantry. ZipCash is double TollTag in these tables.

TxDOT TEXpress (I-30, I-35E, SH 114, SH 183, Loop 12, I-635E opening late 2026; plus LBJ TEXpress on I-635 Luna Rd–Greenville Ave): dynamic pricing intended to keep lanes at 50 mph or faster. Registered HOV 50% discount Monday–Friday 6:30–9 a.m. and 3–6:30 p.m. Drivers without a tag pay higher rates (TxDOT DFW toll-roads page). I-635 East (LBJ East) TEXpress is scheduled to open late 2026 from US 75 to I-30, plus two miles of I-30 TEXpress in Mesquite (same page).

Some movers bake tolls into a travel fee; others add them. Ask whether DNT / PGBT / TEXpress appear on the written proposal. There is no published Dallas-wide “typical toll add-on” in the sources used here.

High-rises: COI, freight elevators, and resident fees

Dallas high-rise and apartment moves are billed hourly, so elevator windows, COI delays, docks, and long carries change the total even when the hourly rate does not change. Elevator hours, COI wording, dock height, and move-in fees are building rules. Confirm with that property. Do not treat mover checklists as facts about a specific building unless that building’s management published them.

Cited mover pages (2026):

  • Stonebriar Moving, Uptown high-rise checklist, updated 2026-04-23: Uptown buildings named on the page (The Vendome, Museum Tower, Bleu Ciel, The Ritz-Carlton Residences, The Crescent, The Ashton, W Residences, The Victor) require a Certificate of Insurance before the freight elevator is released. Submit requirements at least one week out. Most Uptown high-rises allow moves only via freight elevator and cap the reservation at 3–4 hours. 1–2 bedroom: plan 4–6 hours. Larger 2,500+ sq ft units: full 8-hour day or two windows. Most buildings: Monday–Saturday business hours; Sunday rare. Move-in fees “typically $250–$500, sometimes including a refundable damage deposit” — paid by the resident, not the mover (Uptown high-rise essentials).
  • Stonebriar, Dallas high-rise checklist, updated 2026-03-19: schedule 2–4 weeks in advance at buildings including The Vendome, Cirque, and Gables Park 17. Walking from truck to unit “can add 5–10 minutes per load.” Crew rule of thumb they publish: studio/1BR 2 movers; 2BR 3; 3BR+ 4 movers minimum (how to move into a high-rise in Dallas).
  • One World Van Lines, Dallas high-rise guide, 2026-05-18: freight elevator reservation required; COI naming the property additional insured; property managers often need 48–72 hours to approve COIs (Dallas high-rise and apartment moving guide).
  • Firefighting's Finest: towers in Uptown, Victory Park, Downtown, Turtle Creek, and the Design District “routinely require” a COI, a freight elevator reserved to a fixed window, and an assigned loading dock. Fleet is mostly 26-foot box trucks (some 28-foot plus cab); need at least 13 feet of overhead clearance across an 8-foot width and a surface rated for 26,000 pounds. That “rules out a great many Uptown and Downtown parking garages” (Dallas page).
  • Star Van Lines: Uptown/Oak Lawn freight elevators often 2–4 hour windows; COI standard (Dallas page).

If either address is a managed building, get the written rules from management and give the same packet to every company quoting the move. See also the Dallas hiring guide.

Curb, parking, and City of Dallas rules

Dallas does not issue a dedicated household moving-truck parking permit. The official tools that exist are curb-management policy, meter hooding, loading-zone permits, and the vehicle code’s loading exceptions.

Adopted policy (current). Dallas City Council adopted the On-Street Parking & Curb Management Policy on May 22, 2024. Final May 2024 document: Curb Management Policy PDF. Hub: City of Dallas curb management. That document is a citywide curb-allocation and paid-parking framework. It discusses commercial loading zones, passenger loading, flex loading, metered parking, and residential permit (RPO) zones. It is not a household-move permit.

Dallas City Code:

Firefighting's Finest’ practical translation, which matches the code exceptions: the truck must be positioned to load continuously and then leave. It does not sit overnight. They state Dallas does not issue a residential moving permit as such (Dallas page).

Permits that actually exist today (parking permits and licenses):

  • Meter hooding / temporary “No Parking” signs: Application for Parking Meter Reservation; requests at least 2 business days prior. Hooding is not intended to reserve parking for personal use. Rates effective Oct. 1, 2024. Office: Oak Cliff Municipal Center, 320 E. Jefferson, Room 212, (214) 948-5346. Email TRNParkingServices@dallas.gov.
  • Commercial loading zone permits: annual $50; temporary $12.50; replacement $25.
  • Residential Parking Only hang tags: $20 per year effective Oct. 1, 2024; max six per resident/business in an RPO zone. A moving truck is not an RPO vehicle.

Right-of-way / traffic-control permits apply if work closes a traffic lane or blocks a sidewalk or alley (Public Works ROW management). That process is construction-oriented. A household move that blocks a lane is in this territory; a truck loading at the curb under the code’s loading exception is not automatically a ROW permit job.

Heat and season (North Texas)

Dallas climate is humid subtropical. Official NWS Fort Worth / Dallas–Fort Worth climate normals (1991–2020): weather.gov/fwd/dfw_records_normals.

Mover pages that discuss Dallas heat (not a “heat surcharge” in the pages fetched):

  • Firefighting's Finest: “A July load-out in Dallas is a different job from a February one. Longer moves get scheduled to start early, crews rotate through water breaks, and heat-sensitive items — candles, electronics, vinyl, anything with adhesive — should travel in your own air-conditioned vehicle rather than the back of a box truck.” Peak demand: weekends, first/last days of the month, summer school-calendar change (Dallas page).
  • Star Van Lines: “Dallas summers push highs to 95°F, with many days exceeding 100°F. Schedule load and unload in the morning.” Spring/early summer: thunderstorms, hail, high winds. Winter ice storms can close roads for a day or two (Dallas page).
  • Later Neighbor: extreme heat “requires more breaks”; rain requires extra protection. Peak May–August 15–25% higher (2026 cost page).
  • One World Van Lines summer tips: crews begin at 7 or 8 a.m. (summer moving tips).

Heat usually shows up as earlier start times, more breaks (more hours), peak-season demand, and weather delay. Hail/storms are a spring/early-summer North Texas risk (NWS thunderstorm-day peak in May).

Neighborhood planning questions (not building facts)

Citywide context: Dallas 339.7 sq mi and ~1.33 million people (Census Reporter ACS 2024). Highland Park and University Park have Dallas mailing addresses but are separate incorporated towns (Firefighting's Finest Dallas page). For any specific building, treat unpublished details as planning questions. Confirm with that property and put the answers on every written proposal.

UptownCOI + freight elevator 3–4 hr caps; Mon–Sat typical; docks tight; 26-ft may not fit; Stonebriar names specific towers as COI-required. Star Van Lines: 2–4 hr windows, limited street parking, loading zones, one-way streets.Ask management: COI additional-insured wording, elevator window length, dock height, weekend rules, resident move-in fee.
DowntownSame high-rise pattern (COI, dock, elevator) per Firefighting's Finest and One World. Woodall Rodgers (downtown connector) is Texas #3 most congested.Confirm loading-dock assignment and whether a 26-ft truck clears the garage. Metered curb: city meter-hooding process if the crew needs a metered space.
Oak Lawn / Turtle CreekStar Van Lines: mid/high-rise COI, HOA move forms, reserved docks, freight elevators, sometimes a refundable deposit; older high-rises have small docks. Stonebriar covers The Alton at 2929 Oak Lawn Ave. as requiring freight-elevator reservations.Ask: dock dimensions, elevator pad rules, Saturday hours.
Victory ParkGrouped with Uptown/Downtown high-rise rules by Firefighting's Finest and One World.Same COI / elevator / dock questions.
Deep EllumCity curb-policy stakeholder list includes Deep Ellum Foundation. Star Van Lines does not publish Deep Ellum-specific truck rules in the neighborhood section fetched. Congestion and entertainment-district curb demand are planning issues, not a published per-building fee.Ask where a box truck can stand without blocking a lane; check loading-zone signs; confirm weekend vs weekday.
Bishop Arts / North Oak CliffStar Van Lines: many townhome/condo HOAs require COI; street parking tight; narrow streets can limit truck size; mid-rise condos typically need elevator reservations; weekday mornings quieter than weekend restaurant traffic. Firefighting's Finest: Bishop Arts and older Oak Cliff — narrow streets, mature trees, original staircases, door frames not sized for modern sectionals.Ask truck-size limits, alley vs street staging, elevator reservation, COI.
Lakewood / East DallasStar Van Lines: mostly non-HOA single-family; wide streets generally truck-friendly; mature trees/low branches on some cul-de-sacs; a handful of gated enclaves need gate codes. Firefighting's Finest groups Lakewood with M Streets / Junius Heights: narrow streets, canopy, alleys. Those two descriptions differ by block.Send the mover photos of tree canopy, alley width, and stair type.
Preston Hollow / North DallasFirefighting's Finest: 4BR/5BR jobs, bigger crews, sometimes two trucks, HOA truck-staging and hour rules. Star Van Lines: large lots, gated estates, COI/security for gated and condo; gate width and trees can limit height/turning.Ask HOA: allowed hours, truck size, where the truck may stage.
Plano / Frisco / McKinneyInside the 50–100 mile local radius (Firefighting's Finest). Published road miles from Dallas ~19–21 (Plano), ~27 (Frisco), ~32 (McKinney). DNT and US 75 are the usual northbound paths; DNT is tolled; US 75 appears on the TTI Top 100. Later Neighbor: warehouse mileage can dwarf the 5-mile “local” hop.Ask how travel time and tolls are billed; whether the crew is dispatched from Dallas, Plano, or farther north.
Irving~12–16 published road miles west via I-35E / SH 183 / TEXpress. Las Colinas is called out by Firefighting's Finest as commercial/office territory.Ask about gated office/residential access and SH 183 / PGBT tolls.
Arlington~18–20 published miles west via I-30. I-30 TEXpress is dynamically priced.Ask whether the crew uses I-30 TEXpress or general-purpose lanes, and how that time is billed.

  1. Legal name + TxDMV certificate (intrastate) and/or USDOT / MC (interstate), verified in the official lookup.
  2. Written binding or not-to-exceed proposal (Texas) or signed written estimate (interstate).
  3. Whether the job is hourly with a stated maximum (Texas §218.56) or a long-distance flat/weight quote.
  4. Travel time, warehouse mileage, tolls, stairs, elevator, long carry.
  5. Valuation chosen, in writing, with the $0.60/lb example understood.
  6. Building COI entity names if a managed property is involved.
  7. Keep the delivery copy; note damage before signing; calendar the 90-day Texas claim deadline if the move stayed in state.

Give every company the same inventory, addresses, travel assumptions, building rules, and truck-access details so the written numbers are comparable. The Dallas hiring and move planning guide walks through licensing, travel time, apartment access, and suburb coordination.

Frequently asked questions

How do Dallas movers usually bill a local move?

Most local Dallas household moves are billed hourly by crew size, plus a minimum and often a travel or mileage fee. Named published examples include Moving Company Guys at $135 / $185 / $225 per hour plus a $99 travel fee and a 2-hour minimum (cost page); Later Neighbor 2-man $130–$170/hr and 3-man $195–$255/hr plus travel $25–$75 and $1.50–$2.50/mi (2026 page); Cheetah 2 movers $120–$180/hr and 3 movers $160–$230/hr (cost page); Big Tex $150/hr for two movers and a 26-foot truck, $50/hr extra mover, 2-hour minimum, $3.00/mile (residential). Those are company menus, not a city average. Later Neighbor (White Oak Brands LLC, TxDMV 009982077, USDOT 4034369) and Big Tex Moving LLC (TxDMV 009735774, USDOT 2984590) showed certificateStatus expired on Truck Stop on 2026-08-26; Moving Company Guys USDOT 3918729 returned zero TxMCCS rows. Re-check Truck Stop before hiring. This page does not call expired carriers licensed. Texas still requires a binding or not-to-exceed maximum on paper before loading (TxDMV).

Is there a Dallas moving-truck permit?

No dedicated household moving-truck permit appears in the City of Dallas documents fetched. Dallas Code §28-80 and §28-81 allow commercial / over-1½-ton vehicles in residential areas for expeditious loading or unloading. The adopted May 22, 2024 curb policy is a parking-and-curb framework, not a move permit (policy PDF). Meter hooding and loading-zone permits are the official tools that exist (parking permits).

What is $0.60 per pound?

Unless you and the mover agree in writing to a higher limit, Texas default cargo liability is $0.60 per pound per article (43 TAC §218.53; TxDMV). A 50-pound TV is $30. That is mover liability, not insurance. Interstate released value is also 60 cents per pound if you waive Full Value Protection (FMCSA booklet).

How long do I have to file a claim in Texas?

For an intrastate Texas move, file a written claim with the mover within 90 days of delivery (TxDMV; 43 TAC §218.61). Do not assume 90 days on an interstate job.

How do I verify a Texas mover?

Look the company up in TxDMV Truck Stop by name, TxDMV number, or USDOT. City/HHG filters are gone. For a move leaving Texas, also use FMCSA Protect Your Move. Decline quotes from companies that cannot produce a verifiable license. See the Dallas hiring guide.

How do Uptown high-rises change the bill?

The hourly rate may not change, but hours do. Stonebriar’s 2026 Uptown checklist: COI before the freight elevator is released, most buildings cap the reservation at 3–4 hours, and resident move-in fees typically $250–$500 (paid by the resident) (Uptown essentials). Confirm that building’s own rules.

Does summer cost more?

NWS normals: July high 95.6°F, August 95.8°F, about 20 days per year ≥100°F (NWS DFW normals). Later Neighbor publishes peak May–August pricing 15–25% higher (2026 page; TxMCCS certificateStatus expired on 2026-08-26 — re-check Truck Stop; not a license claim). Heat more often shows up as early starts and extra break time than as a line item labeled “heat surcharge.”

Are the totals in this page a quote?

No. Named company tables are that company’s published planning figures. The Moving Company Guys arithmetic table is labeled arithmetic from their published formula. Your written binding or not-to-exceed proposal is the number that matters.
